Well if you didn't read the news on Xandros their website :

So this doesn't state what they will do with Xandros or Linspire (I guess merge them into Xanspire ) but from what I understand Freespire is ALIVE and kicking (hoping it will remain that way).and don't forget to credit the source read the whole press-release there.

Their source? Quote:
Just very good spin. Bottom line, I did not sign up as a Lifetime Insider to this. My spin on it? 'Sold down the river.' Did you notice that part of what was acquired by Xandros is the Freespire 'open source' distribution. How open is it really?

It's been a very long time dying. I very much hope that the guys who last I heard were still employed will get jobs with the new owners; often nasty stuff happens behind the closed doors. Kevin mentioned some of that on his blog when he went. Particularly I would like to single out Ken (Doc Jones) who has had a very difficult job here, keeping the ravening wolves among the insiders at bay. Several weeks ago I had to close the undernet.org #Linspire chatroom for several technical reasons, but there had been no joins and parts for a very very long time, apart from Viper and Ken (Doc Jones) and from time to time JDoyle. I would like to thank those guys for using their bandwidth to help create an IRC meeting place on one of the largest networks. The future? Well, I'm reminded that when Joseph Cheek sold the name of Lycoris to Mandrake/Mandriva, it disappeared, and so did the user community, lock, stock, and barrel, after a short period of time. And he was the only employee left. Wonder what happened to him. Lycoris was a lovely distribution, but slower than Lindows. Probably better suited to Windows migrants (with its many customisations of the file manager) than all the others. Linspire/Freespire being transferred for financial gain to Xandros, another early appearer on the scene, is unlikely to be any different, and the economic climate now is far less booming. There is an old hymn which I heard performed on a CD featuring the Brisbane Salvation Army band some years ago, "God be with you till we meet again". Beautiful words, but seldom used except at a funeral or a mortal departure of a well loved person to distant shores. I bid you all the sentiments therein. Take care all. I mean it most sincerely. I think that it is a bit early to know that... We will surely get an answer or see for ourselves what happen to our lifetime.

Well, I've been told the worry can shorten your life time, so as long as you're not getting overly worked up about it I'm sure your lifetime will be as long as its suppose to be tom |
