I wrote a thread a while back titled An ancient Twinhead circa 1996 laptop runs on puppy which you can find at http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=11546
and a few days ago had the opportunity to try out a current model, an Acer Aspire 3004LM, which is a relatively cheap model.

The innards have the following...

AMD Sempron 3100+
192Mb RAM
(natively runs WinXP (Home) SP2
SiS 900 Based PCI Fast ethernet adaptor
SiS M760GX graphics controller

The ethernet seems impossible to configure, likewise with the the sound. Apart from that it runs puppy 2.15 and also 2.02 which exhibits the same difficulties.

Graphics are 1024x768.

One has to wonder if because this laptop was built with Vista in mind, if there are problems with anything but Vista or XP on it.

Richard
